On May 26, 2012, a female teenager was killed in a Tampa car accident involving two vehicles. The 19-year-old victim was later identified as Donyse Victoria Nykole Hough, a passenger. Alonna Rhemia Simmons, 19, was operating the vehicle, a Toyota Celica.
While heading east on SR60, Simmons was attempting to complete a left-hand turn onto Grand Regency Boulevard when she collided with an oncoming Nissan Altima driven by 21-year-old Damion Joshua Walker. The passenger side of Simmons’ vehicle crashed into the hood of Walker’s car.
Simmons’ car spun around and landed on the shoulder of Grand Regency Boulevard. Emergency vehicles rushed all three occupants of the Toyota Celica to Tampa General Hospital. In addition to Simmons and Hough, another passenger, Donyse Victoria Nykole Hough, 19, also sustained life-threatening injuries. Hough later passed away at Tampa General Hospital.
Walker was treated at the scene of the accident for minor injuries but did not go to the hospital.
Florida Highway Patrolman Sgt. Steve Gaskins elaborated that the accident happened Saturday night a little after 11:30 p.m. He did not specify if alcohol or drugs were involved.
Law enforcement personnel and Tampa personal injury specialists continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
